Boy it's COLD
Well, we got back home and while we were in the south, Grand Forks got another 5 inches of the white stuff. We have had a record month in snowfall. Here is an excerpt from the National Weather Service:
Grand Forks and Fargo each set records with more than 30 inches of snow for December. Fargo topped its 1927 record for December by about an inch while Grand Forks topped its 1918 record of 27.6 inches. We have to pile snow a few feet deep around the driveways and sidewalks while parking lots have mountains of snow! We picked a great time to move. While the temperature remains below freezing the stuff is no big deal. Take a look at the above image. Yeah, this temperature is typical. Some people are starting to fear the Spring thaw. We have not had this much snow since the Floods of 1997. I guess we will wait and see.

The Blizzard
Well, here it is - our first blizzard. The winds have been howling since last night. Today we discovered that the snow has drifted into big, deep piles. You can ask Lance and Zeke about the snow - both have had an up-close experience. Lance had to remove some of the snow in front of the garage to get to the firewood inside. Zeke, of course, just had to get out there and romp around.
So far, we have not braved the winds and the cold temps out on the roads, but Lance is considering heading to Arby's....... hopefully, he will come to his senses.

Loving the weather
Zeke is loving the weather. He is always wanting to get out and play. He has BOTH his two front teeth missing and has a great looking smile!
They will soon have the ice rinks setup. Now that we will not be thawing out anytime soon, they fill the rinks with water and unlock the warming houses.
Hopefully, we will all learn how to skate and not lose any more teeth in the process.
Here it comes
Well, here comes our first winter storm. We have had about 4-6 inches accumulation over the past 3 weeks. So, pretty easy so far. December 5th was the last time we were near freezing temperatures. We will not see above 32 F degrees until sometime between late March to early April. So ALL the snow that falls will not melt until Spring. We already have huge mounds of snow everywhere. Can't imagine how big they will be in 4 months!
Keep posted for additional images as the storm nears. Click the Forecast tab on the weather buddy at the right to see our future.

The Begining of a Grand Adventure
Welcome to our new blog. Now that we are in North Dakota, we are starting this record of our new adventures as a family. Things are already starting to cool off a bit and we are going to provide images and stories from this upcoming winter.
So this week we will go a purchase a large easy-to-read thermometer and begin to record the weather changes. We have heard of strange things happening at -40 degrees and this is the place to find out if they are true. Things like hot water being tossed into the air and disappearing. At -50 degrees it is said that the water vapor in your breath will form delicate snow flakes as you talk. A little apprehensive but might as will make the best of things.
